The 1980s in the Soviet Union, shortly before its collapse, was a very rough and contradictory time. Stagnation, perestroika, market economy, rock music, all tangled together in a bizarre knot of history. Artist Nalbi Bugashev likes the aesthetics of the late Soviet years. His works often depict persons, images and objects of that era. In Drawing 16.04.23, the artist drew two VAZ 2106 cars. The legend produced in 1976 - 2001 was the dream of Soviet car enthusiasts. It was called the Mercedes of the socialists. However, over years, the image of the now beaten down car started losing its former glory and turned into one of the artefacts of the era.
